This decadent body butter is so light and airy it almost seems like it can’t be all natural. But it is, made with all very non-toxic ingredients. The secret is using a mixer to whip it. Vitamin E is added to help preserve the butter. You can use any number of essential oils to scent the butter, but just be certain they don’t have any phototoxic effects if you plan on wearing this before you go out in the sun (e.g. most of the citrus essential oils). Put some on after a shower before you get in your PJs for the ultimate in relaxation!
It does contain a lot of oil, so while it is not greasy, you don’t need to slather it on too heavily. Less is more in this case.
To make it:
- In a double boiler or glass measuring cup set in a pan of water, add roughly 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 1/2 cup cocoa butter, and 1/2 cup shea butter.
2. Melt over medium low heat, stirring occasionally to combine, until it melts completely. Remove from the heat.
3. Mix 1/2 cup avocado oil, 1 tsp Vitamin E oil, and 4 drops of essential oils of your choice. Add the coconut oil mixture and chill in your refrigerator for about 1.5 hours.
4. Use a stand mixer (with whip attachment) or a hand mixer to mix the mixture until you get a fluffy white whipped consistency. Put into a jar for storage. Use as desired.
This body butter should last 10-12 months.
